Altoona Horseshoe Chorus
Altoona
Horseshoe Chorus was incorporated in the early 1950's for men to sing four part
A Cappella harmony in the "Barbershop Style". Four part harmony
consists of Bass, Baritone, Lead
& Tenor parts, with the lead part (usually) singing the melody. Music can be
"true" barbershop or could be a modern song arranged
in the 'barbershop" style. All
music is performed A Cappella (without instruments) and usually without music.
This
chorus has sung in competition, with the Altoona Symphony Orchestra, annual
shows, arts festivals, memorial services, and special events. We have performed
the National Anthem for Altoona
Curve baseball games and Johnstown Chiefs hockey games. We have have performed
for scholarship benefits and often can be found
singing in local churches. Every
year we team up with the State College, Pa. Nittany Knights for shows in both
Altoona and State College.
We meet
on most Tuesday evenings at 7:30 at the Grace Bible Church 134 Logan Blvd in
Hollidaysburg, Pa.. Members are from Altoona, Hollidaysburg,
Martinsburg, Warriors Mark,
Tyrone, Osceola Mills and other local towns. Membership requires only a love
of music and a sincere desire to learn a "part".
Music is learned through a variety of
teaching methods. Llearning tapes are available for many of the songs.
The
Chorus is directed by Michael Stuart who comes to us with a B.S. in music
from Samford University and a Masters in Church Music from
Southwestern Seminary.
Singing
is only "half the fun". Opportunities for fun and friendship are numerous.
We are
looking forward to seeing you at our next meeting. Check out our
CALENDAR or call one of the
OFFICERS to verify time and place.
